This whisky is produced by Sasanishiki Shuzo Co., Ltd., located in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. Sasanishiki Shuzo is a historic sake brewer (founded in 1765) that also holds a whisky production license and distills whisky under the name "Sakurao Distillery." "Yamazakura" is the core brand of its whisky lineup.
It is a very typical, economical blended whisky aimed at the mass consumer market, with its greatest feature being "exceptional value for money." The aroma is relatively straightforward, dominated by the gentle sweetness characteristic of grain whisky (such as corn and malt sugar), accompanied by a noticeable alcoholic presence and possibly faint hints of vanilla and woodiness. On the palate, it carries a certain bite, with a relatively thin body. The flavor is led by simple sweetness (like caramel or syrup), followed by subtle woody tannins and grainy notes.
