Matsui Shuzo, the historic Matsui Whisky Distillery of Tottori, stands as the region's most enduring producer, with roots dating back to 1910. While its legacy began with shochu and sake, its foray into whisky is a modern triumph, having secured its whisky license in 2015. This newcomer has taken the world by storm: its Kurayoshi 18 Years Old was crowned "Best Japanese Whisky" by Jim Murray's Whisky Bible in 2022. The pinnacle of its achievement came in 2024 when the exquisite Matsui Sakura Cask made history by sweeping both "Japanese Whisky of the Year" and "Japanese Single Malt of the Year" titles.
